Despite saying earlier that we’re not watching the local birdlife it is easy to see the hawks and eagles – not so easy to photograph them from a bouncing car on an iPhone however. One swooped down on the car, so close that it felt like it was planning to snatch us off the road. It’s less easy to see what they are hunting but we do see the occasional small rodent of indeterminate species – this indetermination  is partly down to the speeding car again but also not helped by my lack of knowledge of small rodent species in Mongolia. With 100 very loud cars hurtling through the normally quiet desert I am quite surprised to see anything at all.
