This morning dawns crisp and clear for the dash to the Russian border. This is normally an off road section but given the difficulty of the terrain recently and the likelihood that this will not be a quick border crossing we head off on tarmac. A not totally unwelcome development as we want to make sure that we do manage to get out of Mongolia under our own steam. To drive across Mongolia in a 1958 Jaguar sports saloon is a bizarre but very satisfactory achievement. My mood is lightened further by the fact that there is only one more night of camping left in Russia. The Nomad’s have been great but will not be accompanying us across the border so the last night under canvas will be interesting – especially as I don’t have a working tent.
