It’s taken me nearly as long to finish the ‘last 20 minutes’ on this blog as it has to drive from Beijing – apologies.
After 36 days we finally arrive at the Place Vendome, closed for our arrival, on a beautifully sunny afternoon. We didn’t get to see the winners arrive as the event was organised to make sure that they were the first cars to arrive at the finish. Father and son team Bruce and Harry Washington won the vintage category in their Chrysler 75 Roadster. A Chrysler also finished 2nd so expect to see a few more on the 2019 event, much as there was an influx of Chevy Coupes after 2013. The Datsun 240Z of Mark Pickering and Dave Boddy won the classic category and the rally overall (2 more 240Zs were in the top 5). Having said many times that some of the behaviour by crews trying to shave seconds off their times was a bit manic I should point out that 2nd and 3rd place were separated by 4 seconds!
